Looking for the magic formula for weight loss? Well, it is right here! And it’s really very simple.
In order to lose weight, you need to take in less calories than you burn over the course of a day. While every person is different, and burns calories at a different rate (this is called your “basal metabolic rate” or BMR) the only way to lose weight is to burn some of the calories that you have already stored on your body. Losing weight means eating less so that your body goes after those stored calories to provide it with fuel.
To lose a pound of fat, you must burn about 3,500 calories. To lose a pound per week, then, you need to have a deficit of approximately 3500/7 or 500 calories per day. To some people, a drop of 500 calories would seem like a lot, but to someone who eats at the Golden Arches every day, a simple change-up in diet could give you a 500 calorie drop relatively easily. Or try substituting something with less calories for those high-sugar desserts or mid-afternoon treats that you have a habit of biting into. You will see a difference sooner than you think.
To kick up your weight loss program even more, try walking briskly for a half-hour every day and you’ll lose another 80 to 100 calories a day. Not only will the weight disappear quicker, but you will build some muscle as a bonus. And guess what? Muscle creation increases your BMR (see above) AND muscle burns more calories than the same amount of fat on your body! Keep that up and soon you will be a lean, mean, calorie-burning machine!
